As a first time parent I knew I wanted to teach my child all about our culture (Māori). I wanted her to be a lover of the outdoors instead of on mobile devices. I knew I wanted to plant seeds for her that she could one day reap the fruits of. But it was so hard to find anything online to assist me. I wasn't brought up deeply intrenched into my culture but I knew I wanted my children to be, and so the learning journey began.

I don't have (living) grandparents to call on for cultural advise or to guide my children in things I don't know about. The struggle and lack of resources became apparent and so with my learnings, and my desire to raise a child versed and comfortable in her culture, and seeing many others wanting the same, I knew I had to do something.

Now my daughter is 4, fluent in Māori and English, knows and acknowledges her tūpuna, grows her own food and does karakia (prayer). There are still gaps and things we don't have that would help her more. We still meet people who are in need of help and access to resources too. So that's why I created The Plant Pā as a way of sharing what we've done with others.

If any of this resonates with you, we're here to help.
Get in touch with us, tell us what you and your whānau might need because at the end of the day, we're all one, we're all trying to raise beautiful children to be beautiful leaders for tomorrow. Together, we can do it.

Noho ora mai,
Te Haate.
